Como: the promenade to Villa Olmo

Villa-Olmo
Leaving from the Tempio Voltiano, the museum dedicated to the great Como scientist, crossing the rationalist neighborhood, we reach Villa Olmo. This is the greatest residence on the lake and a magnificent example of neoclassical Villa. Villa Olmo for sure, worth a visit if you are in Como. It was built by Simone Cantoni between 1782 and 1789 for Marquis Innocenzo Odescalchi who wanted a summer residence for his family overlooking the lake. Villa Olmo is a great, sober and elegant architectural work, completed by the creation of a large garden with direct access to Lake Como. The halls and the rooms of the Villa have hosted numerous famous historical characters as Napoleone Bonaparte, Giuseppe Garibaldi and Ugo Foscolo. The garden facing the Villa is open to the public without fees (in summer from 7 am to 11pm; in winter from 7 am to 7 pm). The Villa is open to the public also without fees from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 am to 6pm).
